Increasingly across IU, researchers, analysts, advisors, and administrators are beginning to examine learning data to answer questions, meet operational needs, and improve student success. Accessing and understanding the complexities of learning data sources (particularly from the learning management system, Canvas), making informed use of these data, and communicating the complexities of these data represent challenges that we all share, even though we might have different analytical and research goals. The IU Learning Data Guild openly and collaboratively shares knowledge, skills, concerns, and standards of practice for mutual aid in the use of learning data. Together, they examine the challenges inherent in quantifying learning, and explore how they can make responsible and constructive use of these data.
